You’ve got questions. We’ve got FAQs
What if I’m claustrophobic?
Being in the tanks is more like floating in outer space than being shut in a box. You’re always in control of your environment, and even people with extreme claustrophobia have reported having no problems with their time in the tank. Float with a lid , without a lid, with a light, without a light , open the door with the light on , open the door with the light off. The possibilities are endless but you are always in control
How are the tanks cleaned?
The water you float in is made of a special solution of food grade hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) , epsom salt and you guessed it, water. This solution passes through a cartridge filter that is 10 microns (a human hair is 70 microns) , then it is run through a powerful UV filter which combined with the H2O2 has higher disinfecting power than chlorine/bromine. This process filters the entire solution 3 times between floaters.
Will I get bored?
Some people have concern that they will be bored or that they will “overthink” in the tank. After about 40 minutes in the tank your brain waves shift to low frequency theta waves. Usually only experienced before you fall asleep these waves are associated with creativity and “eureka moments”. Usually these moments are very short but the tank allows you to experience this state for a prolonged time. You will experience a new body consciousness and maybe even become a genius .
Whats the best position?
Different floats for different folks. No one position suits everyone, some people settle in with arms at their sides, others prefer to hug their chest. For those that have a lot of tension in their shoulders and neck it may be hard for them to relax these muscles. Placing your hands fingers crossed behind your head can help with this.
Can I float if I’m pregnant?
Of course. There is even a special position for pregnant woman that allows for complete support unlike anything else. Connect deeper with your child as you experience what they experience, floating.
What should I do to prepare myself?
Don’t drink coffee for several hours beforehand (it can make your system jittery). Also, don’t shave or wax since the salt water can irritate your skin. Eating a light meal about an hour to 90 minutes ahead of time stops your stomach from sounding like an angry monster while you float. Other than that, there’s no specific preparation needed.
Will the salt make me dehydrated?
Absolutely not. You wont even get those shriveled finger tips. You WILL get silky smooth skin afterwards though.
Can I drown if I fall asleep?
Nope. Some people fall asleep, but the water is so buoyant that you stay afloat. The worst that can happen is getting woken up by a bit of salt water in your eyes.
What if its that time of the month ?
Just follow the same protocol you would for a swimming pool.
Can I float if I just dyed my hair ?
We recommend that you check if the water running through your hair in the shower at home is fully clear. If there is still some color coming out you should wait a couple of more days/showers.
Do I need to bring anything ?
We try to keep to a strict nothing policy at Float Lodge, bring nothing, do nothing. If you have longer hair, you may want to bring a comb. Also, something to put your contact lenses into while you’re in the tank. Other than that, we provide everything you need (towels, robes, earplugs, body wash/shampoo, blow dryer).
Who invented the float tank?
Dr. John C Lilly a neuroscientist interested in consciousnesses. Ever heard of dolphins having intelligence? He’s the one that proved that.
Is this some hipster fad?
Floating has been around for over 40 years and has oodles of published research to back it up. No balderdash or selfy sticks here.
Do I have to stay in the whole time?
No! There aren’t any latches on the tank doors, and you can get out anytime. That said, the 90-minutes usually goes by way faster than you’d expect (on average, people say it feels like 30 – 45 minutes.)
Can two people float at the same time?
Float Lodge has 2 oasis tanks and 2 open rooms, each designed for one person at a time. Technically you can float at the same time just not the same tank.
